Ignorance vs. Truth

Human beings are all ignorant. It is impossible to be omniscient, no matter how intelligent or perceptive one may be. The world contains a huge mass of information, constantly being added to as people begin to discover new things. There is no such thing as complete knowledge because there simply is too much for the human mind to handle. Being ignorant is a part of life’s ambiguities and it can’t be changed.

Therefore, my question is, is it better to remain ignorant, or to know the whole truth? Ignorance, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, is a lack of knowledge, understanding, or education. Like they say, ignorance is bliss. Ignore all the bad things, close your eyes, and move through life. There is also the option of facing the truth, no matter how harsh or painful it may be, because they also say the truth will set you free. The choice to learn the truth is yours, while at the same time it is also a choice to walk away because every choice comes with its consequences.

For me, learning the truth is my choice. I’d rather learn all of it than suffer from the repercussions of not knowing. One of my favorite quotes from Winston Churchill, which my edit is based on says, “The truth is incontrovertrible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end there it is.” To me, that means that one can get angry and pretend that the truth does not exist, but when it comes down to it, that truth is what you are left with.

In the end, there is no defined right or wrong answer. Instead, you are only left with the consequences of your decision. So, think again, do you think is it better to remain ignorant or to know the truth?
